Food Colours

Food colouring, or colour additive, is any dye, pigment, or substance that imparts colour when it is added to food or drink.
They come in many forms consisting of liquids, powders, gels, and pastes. Food colouring is used in both commercial food production and home baking.
Colour additives are used in foods to make food more attractive, appealing, appetising, and informative.
If you want to bake a coloured or rainbow cake it is best to use a "bake stable" food colour, this means that the colour will not fade or be lost during the cooking process.
For adding colour to fatty or oily products such as buttercream, frosting or chocolate, an oil-based colour is best, this ensures the chosen colour will be and will remain strong.
